| Most of these landscapes remain in a, relatively, natural state. Some are protected as reservations, parks and preserves. Some are minimally impacted because they are military ranges, ranches and private property. Many are controlled by the government's Bureau of Land Management, Forest or Park Service. In all cases they are endangered simply because they exist. As our numbers increase, even these "protected" places will come under increased pressure to domesticate, develop and ultimately be exploited.
