| No Man's Land is a series of large prints derived from my aerial photographs. I chose the name for this series of images because, at first glance, they seem to depict natural, undeveloped, wilderness geomorphology. Upon closer inspection, however, you will find subtle (and not-so-subtle) evidence of human reshaping in the form of roads, dams, mines, agriculture and other development. In this way the interface between human nature and wild nature becomes vividly apparent. These man-made forms tend to stand out, in contrast to the naturally evolved forms, and are as noticeable as an alien presence we might observe on some other planet.
This earth existed for approximately four billion years before our relatively brief, "civilized" organization of it, into plots and states, and it will abide long after we have gone. Its only true owner is time and the elements, or simply nature. We are just occupying it for a while and what we do here will determine our destiny. This planet is owned by everything and no one, it is no man's land.
